The Taoiseach is starting a trip to Africa with a series of engagements in Mali. The West African nation is the first stop on Leo Varadkar’s week-long trip to the continent, which will also include a visit to Ethiopia. Mr Varadkar is expected to meet Irish troops based in Africa during the trip, and visit a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) camp. In Ethiopia, Mr Varadkar’s engagements will include a meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle-Work Zewde. Mr Varadkar’s trip will conclude with a visit to a refugee camp for Eritrean refugees, and to Irish Aid-funded projects in northern Ethiopia.
