A man has been acquitted of sexually assaulting lawmaker Tanya Chan last August, as a magistrate ruled that Chan and another witness gave contradicting testimonies. According to Chan, the incident happened shortly after she inspected a demonstration event where protesters formed a human chain in Shau Kei Wan on August 23 last year. The person standing on her right then bumped against her, Chan added, after which she turned her head around and saw Fan. “If Leung’s testimony was correct, then Chan would have noticed Fan’s presence,” Tsui said. Leung also told the court that Chan grabbed Fan’s shoulder, and that Fan “kissed” Chan, which Tsui considered inconsistent with Chan’s descriptions.
