Tall weeds on the Bayview trail are hazardous to cyclists. So why did the city only do half a job?

When the goal is to improve sightlines for cyclists crossing a heavily travelled street, it helps to chop down all the weeds, instead of just half. Every year the weeds return, but the city usually ignores them until someone complains to 311, and even that may not be enough. They did a fine job on the weeds in a raised bed on the west side of the road, but overlooked the weeds next to the bridge on the east side. STATUS: A note from Mark Mills, a manager of city road operations, said: “City staff is investigating the location (Wednesday) with an aim to make the area safer by improving the sightlines for people biking, driving and pedestrians. I have no problem with amending the city bylaw to allow them on private lawns.
