TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan boasts the third fastest internet download speeds anywhere in the world, according to new rankings by Cable.co.uk. Web users in the country enjoy an average download rate of 34.4 megabytes per second, meaning they could downloaded a 7.5-gigabyte HD movie in just over 29 minutes. That's behind only Singapore and Sweden, which have speeds of 40.16 and 55.13 Mbps, respectively. Singaporeans could download the 7.5-Gb movie in less than 19 minutes. The United States was 21st, with a download rate of 20 Mbps, while the United Kingdom was 31st and Australia was far down the list at 55th.
