Taiwan dodges a bullet as Talim continues north turn

TAIPEI - The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said it did not expect to issue land warnings for Taiwan as Typhoon Talim veered north earlier than expected. The CWB previously said it might issue a land warning as early as 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The country, however, woke up to a pleasant surprise as Talim had taken a sharp northerly turn overnight. If it continues to move north, Talim is not expected to be close enough to Taiwan to trigger land warnings, the CWB said, adding the edge of the typhoon was expected to be 50 km from Taiwan at its closest according to the latest projection. As of 2:30 p.m., Talim was 440 km east of Taiwan, moving 14-10 km per hour in a northwesterly direction.
