‘UTUROAANOTHER VIEWEvery marae in Polynesia, be it in Hawaii, New Zealand, the Cook Islands or any other far-flung outpost had to incorporate a stone from Taputapuatea in its construction. Today, Polynesian communities from Hawai’i, New Zealand, Cook Islands and other dots of Polynesian far-flungdom still meet at Taputapuatea, a candidate for inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage list. Instead, I’m put-putting across the vast lagoon from Taha’a, which that island shares with Ra’iatea, aboard a little motor boat with the islands’ divine madman squatting next to me.
