Tagovailoa Expected To Start For Alabama. Does It Matter?

Less than a month after having surgery on his ankle, sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is expected to play for Alabama in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 29. Junior quarterback Jalen Hurts started for the Tide for two years before Tagovailoa took over this season. Hurts has led Alabama to two National Championship appearances and has gone 26-2 as a starter for Alabama. In the 2017 National Championship, Alabama, again playing Georgia, benched starter Hurts in favor of the untested Tagovailoa, a true freshman at the time. But while Oklahoma averages nearly 600 yards a game on offense, Alabama has one of the country’s best defenses, giving up just 296.2 yards per game.
