Television Broadcasts has lost its legal challenge to the Communications Authority's codes of practice on indirect advertising, after being fined HK$150,000 for showing boxes of KFC fried chicken live on air on December 13 in 2015. After being complained by viewers and with the broadcaster found to have breached the advertising code, having been fined HK$150,000. TVB filed a judicial review, arguing the authority’s decision was in breach of the broadcaster's freedom of expression, violating the Bill of Rights and the Basic Law. With the case lodged in the High Court in May 2018, the court has ruled against the broadcaster today. The court has found no wrongdoings by the Communications Authority and therefore ordering TVB to compensate for the cost of the judicial review.
