The Toronto Stock Exchange edged higher in late-morning trading, helped by gains in the energy sector, despite a drop in the price of oil. The S&P/TSX composite index climbed 6.67 points at 14,832.76. Meanwhile, stock markets in the U.S. were generally lower. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 36.71 points to 18,867.11, while the S&P 500 lost 5.03 points at 2,182.09. The Nasdaq composite fell 13.36 points to 5,320.61.
