In percentage terms, Friday is the worst intra-day drop for the TSX since the summer of 2015. Not a single stock on the TSX posted a 52-week high on Friday, whereas 29 different companies on the TSX fell to their lowest level of the year. A glitch on Thursday that shut the TSX down early closed down the market at a time of widespread fear. Overseas markets were even worse, as most major stock markets in Asia and Europe were down by between three and four per cent. Since the rout began, more than $5 trillion US worth of value has been wiped out from global stock markets.
