TSX dragged down by dropping resource stocks

Resource stocks dragged the Toronto stock market lower this morning as the main U.S. indexes rose moderately. The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX index fell 63.48 points to 14,555.98 as declines at mining and energy companies offset gains in other sectors. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 57.8 points at 18,152.63, the broader S&P 500 composite index advanced 5.21 points to 2,151.31, and the Nasdaq composite gained 26.10 points to 5,283.58. Earlier this morning the loonie dipped to about 75.33 cents U.S. — near lows set in March. The November crude contract was down $1.67 at $44.26 (U.S.) per barrel and November natural gas was little-changed at $3.06 per mmBTU.
