Ariful Haque Chowdhury along with local party leaders staged a sit-in in front of the deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police for one and a half hours in Sylhet’s Upashahar on Saturday. BNP’s Sylhet district unit General Secretary Ali Ahmed said they started the demonstration around 2:30pm as police kept denying that they arrested the Chhatra Dal leaders. Police arrested the three Chhatra Dal leaders--Sumon Ahmed, Rasel Ahmed and Liakat--from Jhalopara in connection with a case filed with the Osmani Nagar police station. Earlier on July 12, the BNP mayoral candidate staged a sit-in in front of Bandar Bazar police outpost as police detained a BNP activist hanging posters.
