Shila Islam, the wife of Awami League Presidium Member and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, has died at a London hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was 57. Shila Islam passed away at 8:30am (BdST) at University College London Hospitals on Monday, Syed Ashraf’s cousin Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu told the Dhaka Tribune. President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader have mourned Shila Islam’s death. “In a condolence message, the president prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members,” president’s Deputy Press Secretary M Abul Kalam Azad was quoted as saying by UNB.
