Suspected septic tank delays tree felling

Two massive macrocarpa trees teetering on the banks of a popular walking track have been given a stay of execution after it was discovered the trees were possibly near a septic tank. Department of Conservation workers were preparing to cut the offending trees on the edge of a cliff on Anakiwa Rd, when the tank was discovered on Friday. SCOTT HAMMOND/STUFF DOC staff were preparing to cut the trees down in the Anakiwa area when they discovered a septic tank near the trees. Dunn said he would report his suspicions to council and confirm whether it was a septic tank, before deciding what the next step would be. The council would have to look into whether proper consent was given for the tank, he said.
