"Justice Gascon has made a significant contribution to Canada and to Canadian jurisprudence during his judicial career," said Chief Justice Richard Wagner in a statement. Shortly after Gascon's announcement, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to say that former Conservative prime minister Kim Campbell would lead an advisory board to choose Gascon's replacement. After that consultation process is over, the justice minister will present recommendations to the prime minister, who will then choose the next justice. He was appointed to the Quebec Court of Appeal in 2012 after having served on the bench of the Quebec Superior Court from 2002.
