The proposal is led by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, and is currently under environmental review by a federal panel. Meanwhile, the court ruling on Trans Mountain could set a precedent for future projects that involve ocean vessels of any kind. Duncan Wilson, a vice-president at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, does not expect the directive from McKenna to hurt their chances of building the project. Either Roberts Bank Terminal 2 or the Deltaport project would go a long way in meeting demand to move cargo from the B.C. The port currently accepts around five million shipping containers of cargo every year, which could almost double by the year 2035, according to estimates by the port authority.
