Share TweetBy Jeffrey DamicogA supermarket in Cavite faces a complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly owing the government over P250 million in taxes. The Bureau of Internal (BIR) filed the tax complaint against Emilus Supermarket Systems Inc. which it accused of willful failure to pay taxes under the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997, as amended. Under the complaint, the BIR alleged that Emilus has a total deficiency tax liability amounting to P2543,066,042.18 including increments for the 2008. “The respondents’ obstinate failure and continued refusal to pay their long overdue deficiency taxes, despite repeated demands, constitute willful failure to pay taxes,” the BIR saidThe BIR said Emilus got sued under the Bureau’s Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program.
