The FTA talks started about a decade back but have not made much progress in the last two-three years. However, momentum is building up for a renewed push, according to Cesare Onestini, minister and deputy head of the EU delegation to India. "We are hoping talks over FTA will be relaunched during the summit," Onestini said during his visit to Calcutta on Thursday. In 2016, India exported goods worth 39.6 billion euros to the EU compared with imports of 37.8 billion euros. Moreover, foreign direct investment from the EU to India stood at 51.2 billion euros against India's investment of 15.9 billion euros.
