Sultan Khan’s dying wish was to see his son. But Canada denied the visitor’s visa

His dying wish — to see his son from Pakistan — was dashed when the son’s request for a visitor’s visa was denied, despite the support of Khan’s doctors, social workers and a local Liberal MP, Julie Dzerowicz. In the last year of his life, Khan made 29 visits to his family doctor and was treated in hospital emergency wards 25 times. "If there were a definition of hell," says Dr. Chetan Mehta, then the life of Sultan Khan was it. Mehta was Khan's doctor for years and believes Ottawa behaved cruelly in rejecting Khan's deathbed wish of seeing his son when it rejected the son's visitor's visa. Zabloski and Mehta contacted Khan’s youngest child, Sardar Rashid Khan, and with the help of Dzerowicz, the MP, they began the visitor’s visa process.
