SATURDAY PUZZLE — Never have I solved a puzzle that writes its own commentary, and I’ll take it. I definitely felt very 1-across once I’d made some headway into this Ned White grid. I had “Afros” for FETES, “tens” for TWOS, and, for some weird reason, “dublpac” instead of TWINPAC for a while. I really enjoyed the onomatopoeia today in words like SNARF, HUM and TUT, and some unexpected cluing — ABACK, SPF, AIMS and others. I think it might be in the context of “LET’S make a reservation at Gramercy Tavern,” but I’m honestly not sure.
