more-inA team comprising officials of Suchitwa Mission found that lack of space was acting as a deterrent in setting up toilets in P&T Colony, Gandhinagar, near the South Railway station. The team visited the area following a directive from the government to find out why the region could not be declared open defecation free. Officials of Suchitwa Mission said that even pre-fabricated toilets could not be set up in the colony owing to lack of adequate space. Septic tanks were not installed at the households in the colony and the waste was being dumped into the Perandoor canal. The officials said that the Kochi Corporation authorities were planning to include the colony for rehabilitation under the government’s Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment Mission.
