Why has the restor­ation of studen­t unions been quelle­d under the foot of higher author­ities? KARACHI: From personal experience, we read in books that students are the real strength of a nation for growth and prosperity. Therefore, with regard to Pakistan an important question arises: why has the restoration of student unions been quelled under the foot of higher authorities? The basic reason for banning student unions was precisely to depoliticise so that power and authority always revolve around those that already have it. Banning student unions is against the rule of law of the state which is primarily democratic ¬– which means that in decisions all stakeholders, including students, need to be accounted for.
