By a margin of 70% to 30%, millennials believe the domestic threat, which currently faces over 44 million borrowers, far exceeds the foreign threat posed by North Korea. North Korea has repeatedly threatened nuclear war with South Korea and with the United States. Yet, millennials still think the student debt crisis is a much bigger problem for America. Unlike almost every other type of consumer debt, student loan discharge is specifically excluded under the U.S. bankruptcy code. The student debt crisis has an effect on the financial well-being of all Americans, even non-debtors.
