The balloons in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan could be grounded because of strong winds expected during Thursday’s celebration, New York City officials said. The latest forecast shows winds between 20 and 30 miles an hour for Thursday, with some gusts reaching 40 to 50 miles an hour during the parade, Paul Walker, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, said Wednesday. Winds could be even stronger along the parade route, which goes through skyscraper-heavy Midtown Manhattan, he said.
