Strange shelf clouds stun residents in Victoria, AustraliaSUPPLIED Shelf clouds were an impressive sight in Australia. Dion Costigan was watching his boys skate in Eaglehawk, in central Victoria, Australia, when he turned and saw something in the sky like nothing he had ever seen before. Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Tom Delamotte said the cloud mass Costigan and many other social media users captured was a shelf cloud formation. "We've seen this bank of rain moving across central parts of Victoria this morning," he said. The descending, rain-chilled air lifts warm air from the ground, with the rising warm air condensing to form the dramatic shelf clouds.
