Storm Bert to hit Ireland tomorrow as nationwide Status Yellow low temperature warning extended

Cork Co Council confirmed that snow ploughs had to be deployed in some areas today as driving conditions were dangerous because of snowfalls, ice and reduced visibility from sleet and snow flurries. The council convened its severe weather assessment team to coordinate its response to the Arctic weather. Council crews carried out pre-emptive gritting overnight and have been repeating salting and gritting since early this morning. Snow ploughs have also been deployed where required and crews are progressing on a priority basis. If a journey must be undertaken, please slow down, allow extra time and be aware of other road users, especially vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists," the spokesperson added.
