The world's most recognisable scientist died in March aged 76, after spending his career probing some of the universe's biggest mysteries. Hawking suffered from rare-early onset slow progressing form of motor neurone disease, which parlayed him and left him unable to speak. "He said he combined his two favourite things, experiments and champagne to put on this party."
