Stay of execution for Auckland tenant who saw her son's treehouse cut down

Armitage’s company Hum Hospitality holds a 20-year lease on a landmark 19th century villa on the corner of Grafton Rd in central Auckland, but the landlord has long wanted her out. Ooi’s lawyer Ray Parmenter has described Armitage as the “worst tenant” and says she has a long record of late rental payments, which she denies. Justice Timothy Brewer ruled Armitage must front up with $18,327 in late rent, rates and water rates payments by 5pm on Wednesday, April 21. Brewer wrote that Hum “does not have a record of making rent payments on time”. He also told Hum to pay a statutory demand from Stylo for $27,000 in legal costs previously awarded against Hum.
