“This was the first time a government prevented the release of any statistical data. Although the Opposition tried to use the leaked data, the job crisis did not influence the election results. Mohanan, now retired and living in hometown Perambra in Kerala’s Kozhikode district, said he felt relieved when the government eventually released the data. “I felt happy when I saw TV channels flashing that the government had finally released the job data,” he said. He said the collection and analysis of job data was a huge exercise.
