Sri Lankan Women Chemists’ Breakfast, 2026 View(s):The Women Chemists Committee (WCC) of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) successfully organised the Sri Lankan Women Chemists’Breakfast on the 10th of February at IChemC Malabe Campus alongside the IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast in support of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the event was conducted under the theme “Many Voices, One Science.” The program opened with remarks by Prof. Hema Pathirana and an introduction by Prof. Suranga Wickramarachchi. The keynote address by Prof. Anuruddhi Edirisinghe, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies and Senior Professor in Forensic Medicine at University of Kelaniya highlighted challenges faced by women in science, including sexual and gender-based violence. The winners of the essay competition on “Challenges and Opportunities in Improving Diversity in STEM Education” and the “Photographic Abstract Competition” were announced during the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Medha Gunaratna followed by a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast.
