Spur of the moment drink-driving decision destroys teenager's yearSTUFF Milaan de Jong has a message to other people who think about drink driving...don't risk it. A spur of the moment decision to drink-drive after a 21st led to a year of heartache and $15,000 in costs for a Nelson teenager. Milaan de Jong, 18, wrote off his work van, injuring himself and others, after driving while well over the alcohol limit. Hours before, de Jong had decided to take his work van out to Kaiteriteri in January to pick up mates. The sentencing judge took into account the fact de Jong paid $10,000 to replace the work van and covered the $1500 insurance excess.
