Champagne flowed in 1987 when Robert Charles Wong was elected to the Legislative Assembly in Ontario’s Fort York riding. “It was a historic win,” says Wong. “I have always believed that diversity helps to build better governments, organizations, and a better country,” he says. Running for office was another way for Wong to promote Canadian diversity. “I welcomed the responsibility of representing the Chinese community and the broader Asian community,” he says.
