Initially, Newton got Sterling his own Facebook page, then an Instagram account (@lifeofsterlingnewton) to showcase cute mug shots. In one video, Doris declares it’s time to put Sterling on a diet, adding only 10 tiny bits of kibble to his bowl. Along with getting laughs, Newton enjoys engaging with Sterling’s fans, and responds to as many messages as she can. With every video Newton posts, people have become more and more invested, she adds, even in her family life. “One lady said, ‘He’s like a virtual therapy dog,’ and I thought that was a wonderful way to put it.”
