US media outlets reported that special counsel Robert Mueller had issued grand jury subpoenas, a method by which prosecutors obtain documents or compel witnesses to give evidence in potential criminal cases. Mueller is using one of the grand juries that regularly operate in Washington, rather than impaneling a special grand jury, the Times reported. The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported Thursday that Mueller had impaneled a grand jury. A lawyer for Trump said he was unaware of the grand jury reported on by the Wall Street Journal, but said that the White House would continue to cooperate with Mueller. "Grand jury matters are typically secret," attorney Ty Cobb said.
