Presidential candidates eyeing the country's top seat have in the past and present announced their ambitions at special venues perceived to be significant. In 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto officially launched the Jubilee Alliance at the venue. Other than the Uhuru Park grounds, Raila has also held rallies at the iconic Kibra DC Grounds. President Uhuru Kenyatta, in his first term, preferred to make major political statements in Githurai but has recently opted for the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri. In Kakamega, meanwhile, Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli has adopted the Bukhungu Stadium for major rallies aimed at deciding the Western region’s political future.
