Spadina Chinatown gem to house Toronto's newest repertory cinema

Spadina Chinatown gem to house Toronto's newest repertory cinemaWell, Canada's largest city and its unofficial capital of film has come a long long way from a few years back when it looked like cinephiles would lose almost all of their beloved neighbourhood repertory cinemas. This comes on the heels of recent news that the Carlton Cinemas, eulogized last fall, are making a comeback under the Rainbow Cinemas banner this June. Buried beneath a condo building, the 186 Spadina space is a lot similar aesthetically to the Carlton than the cinemas whose programming it will most likely ape (The Royal on College and The Bloor Cinema). The room also has the added draw of 700+ seats, making an ideal space for one-off and event screenings. [The Toronto Underground Cinema will have more in common aesthetically with old mall cinemas, but for those who enjoy a late-night screening of Pulp Fiction, that could be just the ticket.
