Cohen Te Maiharoa,13, with his great-great-aunt,100-year-old old Erene McElhinney at her Elmwood Gardens birthday party in Invercargill. A Southland woman has learnt her real date of birth on her 100th birthday. The centenarian had always celebrated her birthday on November 16 but she was actually born on November 17. McElhinney has an assertiveness and confidence that is quite striking, and she celebrated her milestone on Saturday with an afternoon tea. McElhinney is particularly proud of one of her nephews who has found his way as a baker after starting as a chef.
