Gore District mayor Tracy Hicks, left, and Southland DIstrict mayor Gary Tong, in attendance at the Invercargill City Council's extraordinary meeting on Wednesday night in regard to the WasteNet recycling contract. The divide has come after Invercargill City, Southland and Gore District councils made its decisions relating to WasteNet's recommendation for a new recycling contract. The Southland District and Gore District councils, however, voted in favour of WastNet's recommendation for a new contract with a different provider. Now, Southland District Mayor Gary Tong and Gore District Mayor Tracy Hicks in a joint statement say they have serious concerns about the region's recycling contract tender process, following Wednesday night's Invercargill City Council vote. In the interests of being as transparent as possible, the Gore District and Southland District councils want to release all documents relating to this issue.
