Sheldon Bagrie-Howley, left, Ashleigh Jeffcoat and Caleb Hope were in the Gore Rams team at the Bowls3Five indoor bowls competition in Auckland. The $200 Sheldon Bagrie-Howley won in a bowling tournament as an 11-year-old, was all the encouragement he needed to commit to the sport. Fourteen years on, Bagrie-Howley, now 25, and friend Caleb Hope, 21, are two of the rising stars in New Zealand bowls. Bagrie-Howley and Hope, who are members of the Gore Bowling Club, have played for the Gore Rams at the Bowls3Five competition televised out of Auckland. They won the Southland Pairs event this month, which lifted their number of Southland titles to14 (Bagrie-Howley) and six.
