Support for the proposed new Southland Regional Development Agency is "strong, but not unanimous" according to an executive summary of public submissions. Headlining the summary's "dominant themes" is the strong level of support for the formation of a new agency, which will absorb the staff and activities of existing regional development agency Venture Southland, while fostering the aims of the Southland Regional Development Strategy & Action Plan (SoRDS). "There is strong, but not unanimous, support for the option of a Southland Regional Development Agency," the summary says. "Many submitters openly supported it, others assumed it in their submissions and concentrated on particular aspects of its operation or design.
