The presidential Blue House of South Korea welcomed on Wednesday U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that he would meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam in late February. South Korea’s Blue House spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said during the news briefing in Seoul that they expected Vietnam to be the “best venue” for the event, and that they hoped the next summit will be a “step forward”. The Blue House plays a facilitating role between the United States and North Korea. Communist-ruled Vietnam, which has good relations with both the United States and North Korea, had been widely touted as the most likely venue for the meeting. It has also been used as a model of economic and political reform for impoverished and isolated North Korea to follow.
