Dobbs said there was a friendly rivalry between the pair. "It's about getting everything right, you need to have the right gear, and you need to be able to concentrate. Blade shearing was a "dying art" in New Zealand, but Dobbs said there were still a lot of passionate blade shearers in South Africa and Australia. Although his career as a shearer has taken him around the world, Dobbs said there was still much he could learn.
