South Canterbury rowers excel at South Island Rowing ChampionshipsSUPPLIED Jack Blakemore, left, and Ben Bartlett of Timaru Boys' High School won bronze in the boys under 18 novice double sculls at the South Island Rowing Championships at Lake Ruataniwha. It was a good weekend for Timaru schools at the South Island Rowing Championships at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel at the weekend. South Island schools competed in 184 races throughout the weekend, in which 1100 students from 49 schools took part in, and Craighead Diocesan School's Phoebe Trolove was the star of the show for Timaru, winning four gold medals. Timaru Boys' High School rowing co-manager Chris Davidson said Boys' High had a successful weekend at the South Island Championships, with six rowers taking places in B finals, and ten in A finals. In other Timaru results at the South Island Championships, Roncalli's Jack Gibbs won gold in the boys under 18 single sculls, as well as the boys under 18 double sculls with Antonio Frances Rees.
