Life preserving care will continue for women and babies over the eight-hour midwives' strike on Tuesday, South Canterbury District Health Board interim chief executive says. Some unionised South Canterbury midwives will take eight-hour strike action on Tuesday after failed negotiations over their Multi Employer Collective Agreement. South Canterbury District Health Board interim chief executive Jason Power wanted to reassure the public that life preserving services from midwives would be functioning and staff had volunteered from other areas to support the basic care needed at Jean Todd.
