South Canterbury's Covid-19 status remained unchanged over the weekend. The number of cases in South Canterbury stands at 17 for the fifth day in a row, a South Canterbury District Health Board spokeswoman said. A dozen people have recovered from the virus, leaving five active cases - including the only person in the region to be hospitalised with the virus, a man in his 70s who was admitted to Timaru Hospital about four weeks ago. Of the region's 15 confirmed and two probable cases, there are five each in the Timaru and Mackenzie districts and seven in the Waimate District. The Ministry of Health reported on Sunday there were two new cases across New Zealand, both in Waitematā, for a total of 1487.
