South Africa: Bokamoso Solar plant commences commercial operations


Bokamoso Solar located in the North West Province has commenced commercial operations, having achieved full compliance on 12 September 2020. The 67.9MW Bokamoso Solar is currently the largest solar PV power project in the province, with 236,580 solar panels harnessing the intense North West sun. The solar plant has begun generating 177,660MWh of much-needed green electricity each year, which is enough to satisfy the needs of around 30,000 average South African households. Bokamoso Solar plantThe solar PV power plant, which commenced construction in November 2018, is constructed on a 150-hectare project site. Bokamoso Solar is owned by IDEAS Fund and managed by Old Mutual (SA), Reatile Solar Power, Phakwe Solar, Business Venture Investments 1984 and Cicada Community Trust.
