Sourav Ganguly: India v New Zealand, 2nd Test, Kolkata: Eden track will not turn much, says Ganguly

KOLKATA: The pitch at the Eden Gardens is not going to turn much during the second Test match between India and New Zealand beginning on September 30, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly said on Tuesday. "The pitch is not going to turn ... there is too much moisture and this is the first match of the season," said Ganguly. "So unless something happens in the last two days, I don't see a lot of turn in the pitch," added the former national captain.Meanwhile, the pitch was covered all day on Tuesday and so it is expected to be on the damper side.Meanwhile, India will practice in the afternoon on Wednesday. The threat of rain looms over the Test with the India Meteorological Department forecasting thundershowers and thunderstorm on the first four days of the match that begins on September 30.However, cricket lovers would take heart from the much-improved drainage facilities at the iconic ground after Ganguly took charge as CAB president.According to IMD data, there would be thunderstorm with rain on the two days preceding the game. "Partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm," reads the forecast for the first two days of the match on September 30 and October 1.Rain or thundershowers are predicted on the third and fourth days of the game, where an Indian win will catapult the hosts to the numero uno position in ICC Test match standings, besides bagging the three-Test series.India are already 1-0 up following an emphatic victory in the first Test match at Kanpur.
