President Uhuru Kenyatta said last Friday that the move cushions low income earners and improves the living standards of Kenyans. The President's waiver of taxes on bonuses, overtime pay and retirement benefits for low income earners shows he cares for the poor, Mike Sonko has said. Sonko, who is Nairobi Senator said: "Kenyans must now extend unequivocal support to the Jubilee government to ensure that the President delivers on his promises." He told workers at Uhuru Park during the May 1 Labour Day celebrations that taxes on allowances demotivated workers. "It is wrong for such allowances to be subjected to taxes because most of them rely on them," he said.
