(CNN) Fifteen years after Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana , the state faces another long, grueling recovery in the wake of Hurricane Laura. Hurricane Laura caused a storm surge of 9 to 12 feet and pummeled homes in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Transmission lines act as the interstate system for electricity, allowing companies to carry electricity generated by power plants to main power lines that feed into communities.
