No, not embracing a modest expansion of the government, but embracing socialism. Cranks on the right accuse mainstream democrats of socialism, but most people understand this is an attempt to rebrand socialism rather than actual socialism. Nobody but the far left is thinking about Actual Socialism. What would happen if Actual Socialism was debated as a policy prescription outside of local elections in America’s most liberal cities is that it would lose in devastating fashion. I’m not a Democrat, but I implore liberals everywhere to understand this: socialism will not save you in this country.
